Profesor Martin Feely, with the indefatigable Dr. Alex Constanzo, guided GGA members to two spectacular locations in Connemara on Saturday, 20th September 2014. He also provided exceptional weather. This was the follow-up to his previous field trip with us. Our first stop was at Cur where we looked at the Lakes Marble Formation. The geology here and the scenery, with the views over the Maam Valley, is unsurpassed anywhere in Ireland (at least we like to think so!). The D3 folds were amazing. After picnic lunch in lovely sunshine we headed up the Inagh Valley to Lough Derryclare. Here we visited a disused Connemara Marble quarry where we viewed serpentine rich marbles and some mesmerising tremolites.
